چکیده

An effective one-loop action built from the soliton field itself for the two-dimensional (2D) problem of soliton pair creation is proposed. The action consists of the usual mass term and a kinetic term in which the simple derivative of the soliton field is replaced by a covariant derivative. In this effective action the soliton charge is treated no longer as a topological charge but as a Noether charge. Using this effective one-loop action, the soliton-antisoliton pair production rate Γ/L = A exp [−S0] is calculated and one recovers Stone’s exponential factor S0 and the prefactor A of Kiselev, Selivanov and Voloshin. The results are also valid straightforwardly to the problem of pair creation rate of domain walls in dimensions D≥3. Nucleation rates in flat and curved space.

Nucleation rates for tunneling processes in Minkowski and de Sitter space are investigated, taking into account one loop prefactors. In particular, we consider the creation of membranes by an antisymmetric tensor field, analogous to Schwinger pair production. This can be viewed as a model for the decay of false (or true) vacuum at zero temperature, in the thin wall limit. Also considered is the...

Supergravity Domain Walls

We review the status of domain walls in N = 1 supergravity theories for both the vacuum domain walls as well as dilatonic domain walls. We concentrate on a systematic analysis of the nature of the space–time in such domain wall backgrounds and the special rôle that supersymmetry is playing in determining the nature of such configurations. Isotropic vacuum domain walls that can exist between iso...

Gravitational effects on domain walls with curvature corrections.

We derive the effective action for a domain wall with small thickness in curved space-time and show that, apart from the Nambu term, it includes a contribution proportional to the induced curvature. We then use this action to study the dynamics of a spherical thick bubble of false vacuum (de Sitter) surrounded by an infinite region of true vacuum (Schwarzschild).

A dynamic of a false vacuum decay is investigated at the end of inflation. It is shown that a creation of a new phase is mainly stimulated by temperature fluctuations. Moving walls of O(3) symmetrical bubbles interact weakly with their surrounding at the inflation stage. Large field fluctuations might arise as a result of a collision of the walls.
